The
Lesson
Bambara, the
author was attended college and come of age as a writer in 60's. She was at the
forefront of radical politics and feminist. Her writing was written most to
exposes the injustices and the inequalities imposed on African American. The
lesson was about Sylvia who is the main character in the story; she was described
by a young, poor, black girl growing up in Harlem. The story is about a trip initiated
by local women, who being the only educated person in the neighborhood has
taken it upon herself to against the unappreciative children of the
neighborhood to the reader. And the compare between white and black children,
which is the white children can have a toy was cost more than all the children’s
household yearly incomes combined. I think the overall lesson is seem to make
the reader through learning and experiencing can any positive change begin to
occur. And not only educates about economic inequality, but it inspires people
to make a change.
