Descriptive Essay
“The Trip to the Countryside”
On a vacation to my mother’s country when I was twelve years old, it was my first time to go the country. I had never seen a real river with the trees or grasslands on two sides of the river. It was so dreamlike that I want to live there to look at that every day of my life. On one side of the river, it was my grandparent’s garden. The smell of the garden was brought by the wind; the whistle was caused by the wind and the grasses on the other side of the river, and the voices of the birds were so amazing.
The smell of the summer made all the grasses fresher and wealthier. The wind blew a little bit that made all the trees and grasses like dancing in the rhythm of it lyric. Standing in the middle of the garden made me felt like I was a part of our nature. The sun lighted the river, and the river becomes brighter like a diamond with the sparkles waves. The wind also flew away the hot of the summer and brought the water vapor from the river to everyone in town. Every time when I felt tired, I would take the hammock to the garden and set it next to the river to take a little nap, so it would relax my body and made me feel comfortable.
In the afternoon, setting on a pear tree and looking to the river, it was a quite surface of the river. Some waves started appearing when the wind blew up. If the wind stronger the waves would move heavier. There was a big farmland of my uncle in the other side. He doesn’t do anything for his land, so the only grasses grew up and took over his land. Combining the sound of the winds with the tall grasses over the river, the whistle sometimes was made. It started then stopped, started the stopped like a song was playing in an old reader, and it reduced the beautiful and lovely of the song. I grabbed the pear that was in my arm reach tried to reach a star-fruit on the next tree. Looing all around the garden, it still had mango, jack fruit, coconut tree, melon-tree, guava tree and custard apple tree. It didn’t have my favorite fruit which is the durian, but there still was the papaya. After finishing the pear and the star-fruit, I look a high chair to stand on under the coconut. I was tried to get one coconut down and cutting the head of the coconut off, I put the straw in and drink it. It cooled my body down after staying under the sun for a whole afternoon. Climbing on the tallest tree in the garden which was the mango tree to watch the sunset, it was so amazing that the sky changing in color. It turned from blue into yellow then orange to darker and darker and black finally. Night time took over the garden, and all the tree looked like they were tired after spending all day to play with me. They started to sleep to be ready for the next active day.
Early in the morning, there were so many birds that they competed with their voices. They sang too loud that would wake everyone up to start a new day. I woke up and ran to the garden to see how it looks in the morning. It was so wonderful! A cool air breathed next to my whole body got more strength to have fun for all day long. I grabbed a finish rod and dug to get more worms to go fishing. I sat next to the bridge that connected to my uncle’s land and started put the worm into the hook. The time went so fast that I didn’t recognize. Suddenly, three hours were passed and I got several catfishes and ready to bring the fish back to my grandparents to make for lunch.
I only spend three days weekends in my country, and I haven’t been there later. But the senses of my country always stayed in my mind. It starts from my eyes, my ears, my noses, and my taste through my skin. I had been sticking to my body for long time. And I never forget it, it was a great trip that I had in my memory. I hope one day in future I’ll be there to experience my mother hometown the second time.
